Sancratosian nationality law details the conditions by which a person acquires Sancratosian citizenship. Like most micronations, citizenship of Sancratosia is mostly acquired by naturalization. The Civil Code foresees provisions for the acquisition of citizenship by descent or marriage.[1]
Foreigners need to be aged 13 or older to apply for citizenship.
Dual system
The Principality of Sancratosia classifies its citizens into two categories: nationals and residents. Both categories grant individuals of their full civil rights and gives them access to ePorteta.
Nationality
Nationality grants the individual of their full political rights and privileges in Sancratosia. Passports, identity cards,[a] personal emails and certain programs are reserved to citizens of Sancratosian nationality. People who apply for nationality are automatically residents.
Acquisition of nationality is not automatic. The request for Sancratosian nationality must be validated and is reviewed by the Ministry of State. Notably, completing the citizenship test is mandatory for the acquisition of nationality. The test evaluates the candidate's knowledge about Sancratosia, their adherence to the Sancratosian values and principles as well as their motivations for the acquisition of nationality.
Nationality is lost by the acquisition of the nationality from another nation.[b] An exception is made for individuals which may not renunciate their nationality. It can also be lost by the acceptation of public functions conferred by a foreign government or in some cases foreseen by law.
Certain exceptions can be made to foreigners that are deemed dignified of this favour.
The acquisition and reacquisition of nationality is the prerogative of the Sovereign Princess.
Residency
Residency grants the individual of the civil rights but not of the political rights. It is also automatically granted to people who request Sancratosian nationality but do not meet the requirements.
Residency[c] is generally automatically granted to individuals who request it. It is lost only by the establishment in a foreign country without intent of coming back.
Honorary citizenship
Honorary citizenship can be given by the Sovereign Princess on individuals who have not requested citizenship. It is not counted in the official count of citizenship. Individuals who receive the honorific citizenship can generally access the same rights and privileges of citizens of nationality.
List of honorary citizens
The first honorary citizenships were offered to certain individuals participating at MicroCon 2022.[2]
