The 2018 MOF Prep Games, alternatively simply the MOF 2018 Games, also known as the 2018 MOF eSports, was the first edition of the MOF games, hosted by the Micronational Olympic Federation directly. The events took place over the span of 11 days from 15 February till 26 February 2018. The competition was hosted to "help for the preparation and for the stability of the MOF"[1]. A total of 6 micronations, being represented by 7 cyletes, participated in 6 (retroactively regarded as 4) events[2]. Being the inaugural competition, the 2018 MOF Games set down multiple principles that would be followed in the succeeding events, such as the online format of the events.

Events

The 2018 MOF Games consisted of 6 events, with three of them being skill based (tic-tac-toe, checkers and Agar.io Party) and the other three being under the national titles category (best flag, motto and coat of arms). Tic-tac-toe and checkers followed a single elimination format, Agar.io Party a system in which the cyletes are ranked based on their best time, and the national titles a jury system.

Tic-tac-toe

The tic-tac-toe event was played on a Google Docs drawing hosted by Posaf. The game was generally played as a best of three on the normal 3×3 grid, however in the semi-finals, in the case of two consequent ties, a 4×4 grid was used instead. In the final upon two ties, both players received the gold instead.

National titles

The national titles were an event, in which a jury would rate different symbols of nations, such as the flag, motto and coat of arms. Unlike the other events, in which cyletes would register and participate, the national titles were between the nations, with each one automatically participating by joining the competition. Initially, the national anthem was one of the symbols rated. However, after finding out that only Andany had a national anthem, it was replaced on 12 February with the coat of arms.

Best flag

The criteria for the judges to rate each flag consisted of four main points: colours of the flag, symmetry of the flag, noticable elements of the flag and the distortion of the flag (image quality).

Placement Nation Flag Reasoning
1 Phyrria The colours on the flag have meaning, with purple symbolising royalty, black protection, and white unity. In the middle of the flag, there is a seven-pointed star, representing the seven tribes of Phyrria.
2 Andany The colours on the flag have meaning, with green representing nature, white peace and blue unity. The oak leaves in the middle represent equality.
3 Posaf The colours on the flag have meaning, with blue representing the future with a blue sky, white purity, and the green vertical bar the trees in Posaf.

Best motto

The mottos were rated based on how well they represented the micronation and its people

Placement Nation Motto Reasoning
1 Phyrria "Accept differences to unite as one" The motto represents Queen Abby's goal for peace in the world. It also shows the pride of the Phyrrian people.
2 Millania "Liberty and Order" The motto represents the way the Millanian people work, and what the nation looks to strive for.
3 Andany "Clavis est ad mare magnum" ?[Note 1]
Posaf "Lets Be One" The motto represents how the Posaf people are welcoming and their strive for unity.

Best coat of arms

The ranking for the coat of arms was made by the Alpenian Empire. Unlike the other two national title events, this one did not have criteria by which the coats of arms were ranked.

Notes

  1. Unrecorded
  2. On 20 September 2018, Andany was revoked of all its medals, after it was discovered, that it had lied about many details regarding the micronation, effectively making it a fantasy micronation. Before the revoking it had 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals, giving it the overall 5th place.
