Hugia (/hudʒiːə/ ( (listen)), officially the Kingdom of Hugia), is a landlocked, self-proclaimed sovereign micronation located in the United States. It was founded on 29 January 2019 as The Pretty Huges, originally founded through a Roblox group. The nation has a population of eight (6 humans, 2 cats) with six (4 humans, two cats) of those living in the capital, Tractohall.
The Hugian government is a unitary semi-constitutional monarchy under a dictatorship with seven counties and one autonomous hall. However, there are currently no official laws in the nation. A constitution is being progressively written as time goes on. On 12 August 2021, Henry Vireyica (founder and current prime minister) had Hugia go into a regime change. It famously transferred from a republic into a monarchy. Two years later in July 2023, the process of defantasization began and the nation would no longer be fictional. Since Hugia is no longer a fictional micronation, they would later declare independence on 11 November.
Hugia is also known for having its head of government being in control of everything. The nation is only in one alliance, known as CROWN. The whole country itself used to be the organizer, but only lasted for 2 days. The prime minister is in full control of this alliance. So far it's been in ruling since the creation of the alliance.
Etymology
Hugia’s name comes from a phrase, "It’s pretty huge!", a saying said first by the first Prime Minister of Hugia, Henry Vireyica when he was a child. No one knows why he started saying it. Some speculate that the phrasing comes from joking about how big one of the cats Henry lived with.
The first unofficial name of the micronation was called The Pretty Huges. Eventually, in early 2020, would be renamed to the First Hugian Party, and then it took a year until Hugia’s name was founded.
Hugia could also be known as the Land of the Hugians, or the Land of the Huge, which these terms are uncommon and rarely used to refer to them and its people.
History
When it came to the foundation of Hugia, it started in a Roblox group that was known as The Pretty Huge People. Not much thought was put into it until 3 October 2020 when Hugia officially became a micronation. This was when Hugia was a fictional micronation. 12 August 2021, Hugia changed its regime into a kingdom. Two years later in July 2023, it was no longer a fictional micronation after four years and five months of establishment.
Prehistory
Hugia has been home to indigenous groups for thousands of years. The people who inhabited this area were known as the Kalapuya. These groups started settling in, or around this area until the Europeans started settling in. People around Hugia, specifically the Europeans in what is now around Oregon State, started settling in the 1500s. The Spanish started to settle first. Then the French settled, then the British.
Eventually, Oregon became a disputed territory in the 1800s between the United States and the United Kingdom. This territory was known as the Oregon Country. It would eventually be divided in 1846. This was known as the Oregon Treaty.
A flood occurred in 1996. Luckily, no one was injured or had died, but the area around Hugia had been damaged. Later in the 2000s and 2010s, where modern-day Hugia is in became a farmland for selling crops for the upcoming years. This was a huge part of Hugia's economy, as it was known for selling corn and other crops. Hugia at this time was known as the Red Tractor Farm.
Establishment and independence
29 January 2019, Hugia was formed through a Roblox group known as The Pretty Huge People. The whole entity was inactive for the rest of 2019 until it was re-discovered again at the beginning of 2020 to celebrate its one-year of establishment. On 24 April 2020, the First Hugian Party, a political party, would be formed. Six months later on 3 October, Hugia would become a fictional republic (Republic of Hugia) that would be founded by a character Henry Vireyica created known as Bobbo Hugius when he was in fourth grade. Its first flag would be adopted, along with finding its location. The Hugians would claim the entire Chadian province of Sila. The flag would be changed three times the month it was officially established. Also, the capital would be founded in Goz Beïda, Chad. It would be known as Hugia City.
12 August 2021, Hugia declares itself as a kingdom. Henry Vireyica thought that making the government of Hugia was complicated so he decided to change it into a kingdom instead of a republic. Many rebel groups would be formed for the fictional Hugia (aka The Tales of Hugia), one infamous group would be known as the United Soviet Hugians (or USH for short).
In late June 2023, Hugia's counties would all be established. This was around the time Hugia's government really started to form out. At the beginning of July, Hugia would no longer become a fictional micronation. This event would be called, Defantasization. Talks and plans for the declaration of independence were being made. The current royal coat of arms would be adopted, with the abdication of Henry Vireyica on the same day, 5 July. Two days later, the capital would be renamed from Hugia City to Tractohall. Two weeks later, the first physical flag of Hugia would be made. Hugia declared its independence on 11 November 2023 and raised the national flag next to the Red Tractor Statue. A day after they declared independence, they claimed the eastern portion of Bir Tawil. This would become the first territorial claim outside of proper Hugia.
A coup d'état took place on 9 February 2024. It lasted for almost 3 hours leading to no deaths or injuries. The coup failed which led to the Confederate Counties of Hugia (CCH for abbreviation) and its president being in court, eventually facing death. The first court and death punishment happened 2 days later on the 11th. Over half of the land was occupied by the Confederate Hugian Armed Forces for 30 minutes, which the Royal Hugian Army liberated all of its territory in 40 minutes. A few months later on May 30, the constitution will be ratified. It will be effective June 1, marking the end of the defantasization period.
Geography
Hugia borders the U.S. state of Oregon on all sides, from north to south and west to east. The Willamette River is on the west and a pond is bordered on the southern border. The location of the nation is in Western Oregon with a size of 8.5 acres (0.0343983 square kilometers) and is landlocked within the United States.
Climate
Due to being in a temperate oceanic climate zone, the climate can typically be cold all year long, which the fall and winter months are great examples. Hugia is a very wet country all year long except for the summers which usually are dry, especially in the summer months. The summers have been getting hotter, setting records as the years follow. This is due to droughts and wildfires being common near the area.
